This textbook represents a real labor of love for all three of us. The textbook used in this course is the “Software Architecture in Practice, Second Edition,” by Clements et al. The desire to understand modern software development best practices is the impetus behind my study of software architecture and design. Primarily, I have been using: Software Architecture in Practice, Second Edition. I've previously owned the 2nd edition. Software Architecture in Practice. I cannot find in the literature a precise distinction between Software Architecture and Software Design. The 3rd makes an important improvement: gone are the case studies. Welcome to our site for our textbook, Software Architecture: Foundations, Theory, and Practice! Fairbanks in his book says: “In practice, you will often find it difficult to differentiate architecture from detailed design”. Two panels at WICSA 2012 in Helsinki discussed the state of software architecture research as well as its future. Software Architecture in Practice (3rd Ed) by Bass, Clements and Kazman was my next stop. A couple of years ago we called someone programming software applications a programmer, now such a person is called a Solution Architect. Of course, I did not read all the books about software Architecture available in the market, but I read two great books, which I recommend ( mentioned on footnotes below), but neither of them, IMHO, are clear when try to differentiate one from the other.
